"In society there are sheep, there are wolves and then there are sheep dogs.... Sheep are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident. Wolves feed on the sheep without mercy. Sheepdogs live to protect the flock and confront the wolf.”

Are You Paying Attention? The late Col. Jeff Cooper, in his book Principles of Self Defense, gave us his adaptation of the color code as a reference to mindset. Cooper believed mindset was more important in surviving a lethal encounter than the weapons or tactics employed. We agree.
Condition White =unaware and unprepared, oblivious! Condition Yellow =relaxed but alert to any threat."Today I might have to defend myself.” Condition Orange =a specific threat has been identified. “I may have to shoot him.” Condition Red =Fight! With all at your disposal, fight!
We are in a time of a struggling economy, let us not forget that the wolves are very much a threat. As a law enforcement officer I can attest, first hand, that there has been a significant increase in crime, particularly thefts and robberies. The wolves care not how they obtain funds to provide their pups with spoils. We have all heard on television, and read in newspapers the headlines, of unwary citizens being robbed in broad daylight, or homeowners being burgled in the dead of night. Let us not fall into the habits of sheep and become fodder for the statistician. Stay Alert!
Crossbreed Holsters Awhile back, we encountered a client wearing a holster that was undoubtedly the ugliest contraption we have ever seen. A visit to their website told us they know their product is ugly, but proclaimed it to be the “most comfortable and concealable holster available.” We have the proverbial “box full of holsters” to prove that things seldom work as advertised, so we were naturally hesitant to purchase one. We contacted the company and they immediately sent us a sample to review. Wow! It is hideous! And hands down the most comfortable deep concealment holster I have ever worn! My wife has since taken it for her own use and loves it. Pay them a visit at www.crossbreedholsters.com to look for yourself. We were impressed and think you will be also. And, the little crosses you see molded incorporated into the design has a higher meaning. Check them out!
Mouse Guns While I’m sure everyone is familiar with the adage associating opinions with certain orifices, I will trudge ahead anyway. Often we have clients, both experienced and inexperienced, arrive with various forms of semi-automatic handguns chambered in .22 long rifle. While a .22 is great for practice, plinking, and hunting, it is a poor choice in a defensive firearm. Beside its Lilliputian payload, the darn things are just plain unreliable. Seldom ever does a .22lr chambered handgun (revolvers not included)) complete the CWP qualification course without a single malfunction. Now I know some will tell you a .22 beats having no gun at all. But, by that logic, a staple gun beats having no gun at all! The bottom line is this, carry the largest, absolutely reliable handgun you can afford. If you cannot afford one, sell something and get one!
Carry It! We are aware that some will receive their permits, strap on their weapons and, after several uncomfortable hours, remove it never to be carried again. Make the effort to adjust to the discomfort, try different holsters, experiment with your clothing, etc. You have the ability to exercise a right not afforded to the majority of the population of this planet. Just like a parachute in an airplane, a flotation vest in a boat, or the seatbelt in your car, it will do you no good unless you are wearing it!
